Najm Wallet Settles a Live Crypto Transfer on Stage to Unlock a UAE Regulatory Sandbox
A UAE regulator gave Najm Wallet five business days to prove a working custodial crypto wallet, not a slide deck, so a compressed build shipped a verifiable on-chain settlement in time for demo day.
Najm Wallet’s founder had five business days to demonstrate a working custodial crypto-fiat wallet to VARA, the UAE’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, to secure a path onto its sandbox licence. The bar VARA set was specific and unforgiving: a live product, not a presentation, including an on-chain settlement the regulator could independently verify on a block explorer in real time.
Hashorn put a two-engineer pod on the build alongside a QA lead and project manager, delivering an MVP with phone-OTP authentication, KYC integration through Sumsub, Fireblocks custodial wallet provisioning, AED card on-ramp functionality, and cryptographic receipt generation for every transaction. Given the zero-margin timeline, the team maintained strict risk management throughout, producing three fallback signed builds and running full dress rehearsals before demo day rather than trusting a single build to work first time.
“We had five days and a regulator. Hashorn didn’t blink. By Friday morning we were sending real AED-to-USDC transfers on stage. That demo unlocked our entire roadmap with VARA,” said Khalid Al-Mansouri, Founder of Najm Wallet.
The live AED-to-USDC transfer settled in 11 seconds on stage with zero critical defects, and the on-chain proof gave VARA exactly the verification it needed. The regulator confirmed the sandbox licence path that same afternoon, and Najm Wallet raised its pre-seed round two weeks later on the strength of that demo.
